Day in the Life

Just another day in the life of a almost 5 month old and a 35 year old mother. ha! We were up by 7 and ate and got ready and went for a one hour walk. I love my morning walks with Harper. I sing to her, talk to her and pray. She fell asleep halfway through so I started making my plans for what I would do when we got home while she napped. But of course the minute we walked in the door, Dawson was so excited he was jumping and making a racket so she woke up. So much for those plans. So I played with her and fed her again and then started trying to work on a nap. Not so much. She will lay in bed and scream like I'm trying to cut her limbs off if I try to make her nap and I just hate it. So when Daddy came home from lunch - I got us both cleaned up and we did the only thing I know she'll enjoy and possibly sleep through - SHOP. And sure enough we had barely gotten out of the neighborhood and she was out. So I took my time browsing T J Maxx before I finally brought her home.
Here she is enjoying her mesh feeder. That ice must really feel good on her gums. Her teeth are really poking through. I can't wait to get a picture of them. (If you are looking for one of these feeders - I got it at TAR-JAY!)
Her new things is sucking in her bottom lip (like this). Maybe she's feeling her teeth??? It's so cute!
I got her to bed tonight and Scott kept her so I could go to the hospital and see this new baby, little James, of one of my friends I worked with for the last 13 years. He was born this afternoon. After all the blog reading I do - it's gotten to the point that when anyone I know has a healthy baby and a safe delivery - I'm almost shocked and think it's a miracle. I guess I took for granted for so long that all babies were born healthy. It's convicted to me to always pray for expecting mothers. (And I seem to know a ton of those these days.) (Hoping to know more soon!)

All day long I have thought about, prayed about and written several drafts in my head of what to say about the "fake blog". I'm not going to mention it by name but if you know what I'm talking about - then you are with me and if you don't know - it's just as well - just skip this part. Obviously it has saddened me deeply. To know so many who have had the loss of a child or like us - went through a traumatic experience and nearly lost a child - it is not "funny" or "cute" to me that someone would fake such a thing for attention or profit. That is not what bothered me though. What bothered me was that this person wrote under the context of a caring Christian - taking prayer requests and giving spiritual advice. I worry about those of you who don't have a firm foundation in the faith who may be disillusioned now.
There are two things I know - God is real. And so is Satan. And the Bible says Satan is roaming to and fro around the earth looking for whom he may devour. So many blogs (hopefully including mine) are such a ministry. I pray every single day that God uses me as a light for Him. I'm not perfect - in fact I'm so far from it sometimes I wonder how Jesus can love me much less forgive me MUCH LESS have died for me. I'm just someone who wants to be His hands and feet to others. And the Devil wants this stopped. But what Satan meant for evil, God meant for good. If you prayed for them or sent that blog a prayer request or sent money or gifts - God knows your heart and just because that person isn't perfect and may have let you down - GOD NEVER HAS AND NEVER WILL. Angie Smith and MckMama addressed the whole thing so I won't and I hope you won't leave comments debating anything about it or even discussing it. I've just been asked so much today and since I asked for prayer and pointed people originally to it (even though I've felt for a long time that something just wasn't right about it) - I needed to say something.
We live in fallen world, ya'll. I'm just thankful that this earth is NOT my home - I'm just passing through. I have an eternal home in heaven with Jesus and because of his merciful grace I am saved and will spend it with Him with no sorrow, no pain, no sadness, no loneliness, no jealousy, no anger and no sin. John 14:6 says "I am the way, the truth and light. NO ONE comes to the father but through me (Jesus). " I pray you have a relationship with Him so you can be in heaven with me - without all this mess. We can feast at God's royal table in our new bodies and sing worship songs with our angelic voices together!!!!

Harper looks so cute chewing on her mesh thingy! :) Teething is so hard. Riley didn't have any tylenol or orajel, for like the first time in weeks today! I'm praying for a little break from teething... :)

Thanks for all your encouragement. You are such a light and I appreciate you (I always feel like I'm reading words from a big sister, which I guess, in essence, you are that to me!)!

Again- your blog is a great ministry, keep it up my dear!

I LOVE IT but have only seen it in the states and I live in WAY NORTHERN Canada and don't get down to often but am dying to try your recipe for the chicken and rotel and tortillas but can't find Rotel.. any substitues ( although.. can there really be a substitue for Rotel!)

Hi Kelly, I've been reading your blog since Harper's birth but only recently started officially "following" you. You have an absolutely beautiful baby girl and I look forward to your posts and prayer requests. Thank you for being a true Christian light and giving out the right message about the fake blog. I look forward to watching Harper grow! :)

Harper is so adorable, and getting so big! I feel like I know you, from following your blog (which I know isn't the case, but whatever...). She's such a beautiful girl and lucky to have such a caring mama.
I think you addressed this with grace and to the extent necessary. I've had to deal with my share of fall out from it all from linking there and urging people to pray.
But the amazing thing is that no matter what, prayer is never a mistake.
Thank you for the ministry that is your blog!

I don't comment very often but wanted you to know that I am very blessed by alot of your entries. I don't know anything about the fake blog, but keep yours going. You have such a great perspective on things and I feel like you have a great ministry. I'm a stay at home mom of 3 girls and you bring me back to the days of my first born being a baby. She is 8 now and in so many activies, I miss those days of just nap's and shopping. I too, loved to shop with my babies. Enjoy her, she is so precious.

I 100% agree with you on the situation... I have personally felt disillusioned by it all, and was heartbroken at first... but as the day goes on I have let it go. God holds me up, He knows the truth and that is good enough for me!
I wanted to tell you also that I enjoy your recipe blog... I'll have to try some of your southern ideas!

Kelly,

Your blog really did lead to me rededicating my life to the Lord, because I wanted to be a strong Christian woman, just like you. Your blog is a light and I know you have been such an inspiration to so many women, and then to have such a sweet little miracle in Harper.....I just know the Lord is so proud of you!

I never did feel quite right about the fake blog either. I think what you said about it was exactly right. It's just really hard to understand the "why", but we can always keep praying that she will find what she was looking for in the Lord, instead of in this kind of sympathy.

I can't wait to sing those worship songs with you one day!

Oh isn't she a cutie pie!!
Love the lip sucking. Too cute.

The fake blog has upset me. We sat by our daughter through 4 near death experiences in her short life of 7 years. We know the pain and heartache involved. I ached for B. I checked on her often. I sat at my computer checking for updates. I believed. I prayed for them. For the life of me, I just can't imagine how or why someone would be so cruel. It's sad. B is sad. Oh my gosh. ENOUGH already.

Love to see the pictures of Harper each day. She is so precious. You are so very blessed.

Stephanie said...

My daughter wouldn't nap until six months. It was so frustrating, BUT I was blessed with a full night of sleep when she was two months...so I couldn't really complain! When she was around six months, I found out I'm pregnant again...and I NEEDED a nap. So, I would take her to bed with me in the afternoon and she would eventually fall asleep. Then, the fourth/fifth teeth she cut kept her up at night and she would wake up every couple hours. So, after a lot of exhaustion and talking to several other moms, I decided to try letting her cry it out. I started out with little baby steps - the first night, I couldn't stand it past five minutes. The next night, I let it go longer...and eventually she would fall back asleep. Once she was sleeping through the night again, I did the same routine with naptime, starting out with an afternoon nap. Eventually, she got to where she is now - at 10 1/2 months she takes a 2 hour morning nap and 1.5 hour afternoon nap. Just hang in there, Kelly...and remember that every baby is different too. What works for one mom may not work for you. Just do what works best for you and sweet little Harper. Hopefully, as she gets bigger she will get better at napping. Praying for you!

Thanks for your post Kelly. I appreciate your words on that "situation".

So, on to more important things. I love reading about your daughter. I started reading your blog when Harper was born, and I can't stop. My baby girl (my 3rd child) was born 3 months before Harper, and I think they have lots of similarities, so it's fun to read what you guys are up to. When Harper was sick, I used to pray for her every night as I nursed my girl to sleep, longing for the day when you would be doing the same. So, yay! Also, Allie (my girl) loves her mesh feeder too and also started sucking her bottom lip when she was teething. And she also screams like a pteradactyl. :)

Harper is just beautiful!! I too had a child that was NOT a fan of naps until I found this thing that you clipped to the side of the crib and it vibrated the whold bed (as if she were strolling in her stroller or in a car). It was a lifesaver!! Maybe you could try that? If I find a link to one, I will send it your way!

These words are always so very comforting! Praying!
Romans 8:26-28 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

I think Harper's lip-biting is pretty common in teething babies. My daughter did it, too. FYI, you may find that her eczema flares up a bit with teething b/c of all that drool on her face. Samantha's cheeks got really red this past winter from it. Glad Harper likes her mesh feeder! I've heard frozen bananas are great in those.

Hi Kelly! I just love, love, LOVE your blog! It's such an inspiring and uplifting read for me every day. I just love the pictures you post of your adorable little girl.

My son enjoyed those same teethers you posted the picture of Harper using. They were great for ice cubes when he started teething. For fruit...not so much! Just a warning to you, be prepared to chunk them after you give her fruit in them because they were impossible to clean. =) I still thought they were worth it though to help my little guy work those new teeth in.

Well said, Kelly. I felt angry for wasting precious time on this matter, but then I realized something so important. When I lift my prayers to Jesus, He treasures this time, each and every sweet word, I have set aside for Him. NO PRAYER GOES UNWASTED. NEVER. It is not for me to judge the hearts of others, but it still feels like a waste of precious heartfelt time. Our sisters who lifted this "family" did exactly what should have been done...the rest lies in His hands. The Lord knows your kind hearts, and He loves you all for that.

Your girl looks so happy to have her gums soothed. Hi Harper! You are precious!!!

I am almost 20 years older than you and I am a follower of Christ, but your faith and wisdom touch my heart. I know your parents are proud of you.
Harper is a doll baby!
Blessings!

Thank you for the verses and thoughts at the end of today's post. Having an emotionally rough day. I love being pregnant and the miracle of it, but at the same time it's hard knowing I'm carrying a precious girl that will not live. Thanks you made my day a little brighter.

Kelly,

I just wanted to say that I absolutely love your blog and find you to be such an inspiration. I found your blog through a friend's shortly after Harper was born and have been faithfully following since even though I don't comment much. You rock, sister!

Here's a random sidenote for you - I first found information about Katie on your blog and began praying for her immediately. Shortly thereafter, I realized she is actually the sister of one of my sorority sisters from Baylor. Small world, huh?

As for the fake blog, I have a heavy heart over it because the very day they claimed the baby was born (I'm not even sure there if there is a child), one of our friends woke to find her 5-month-old had passed during the night. All roads lead to SIDS at this point and the coincidental timing has just made me sad.

But, you know what? I've been praying so hard that God would soften my heart (it's been really hard and closed up due to some issues with my past) and it's obvious He has...I know this because I followed that blog and prayed that He would show Himself to everyone with healing. So I'm just going to look at the bright side and know that none of that prayer was wasted. This is obviously someone who needs intercession.

Thank you for being such a light!
Casi

I feel the same away about praying fervently for pregnant friends. Our son had a birth defect & almost died, but God used the doctors & do what he needed & after 5 weeks in NICU, EMCO, & surgery, he's now 2 1/2 & doing great. I'm alwasy amazed at families who have many children, especially ones like Jon & Kate & the Duggers who have 18 & NONE of those kids had issues. What a miracle babies are! I love reading your blog... Harper is just too cute! If we ever have a girl I'll be hitting those buttons on your left side with the hats, shoes & bows for sure! :)

I can not tell you what a spiritual inspiration you are to me. I also love watching Harper grow up. I laugh reading about your exhaustion because I am right there with you!

Kelly- I feel that for the past several months I have been in a "desert place" away from God. All from my own doing of course...not spending time in reading/prayer like I should. It seems like I have been in this place for so long that now when I pray I can't feel Him or hear His voice. Whenever that happens, it is always us and never Him. I prayed again today for a reminder...something that He would give me...and then I read your blog. You said

"I'm not perfect - in fact I'm so far from it sometimes I wonder how Jesus can love me much less forgive me MUCH LESS have died for me."

When Jesus died on the cross for me, He already knew this place that I am in right now...but He still died for me, He still loves me enough to have been on that cross despite my lack of fellowship...and that is enough for me *right now* to know that I am not deserted or forgotten. He used your blog today to speak to me. And for that I am thankful.

Babies being born healthy and well are definitely a miracle. It's what my former pastor called, "the miracle of normalcy." I never understood that so well until I went through a miscarriage and then the healthy, normal pregnancy and birth of my son. Even though I had to have a c-section, it was all normal and miraculous to me! I thank God all the time that I never had to go through the traumas with my son that so many have been through with their little miracles.

Harper is just a doll, I love that you post so many pictures!
We went through the same thing with our little guy crying so much when it was time to sleep, at nap or night. He was in our room until he was six months because he kept waking up to nurse, so I'm with you!
Your blog is such a light and your heart is evident and you are an amazing testament to our Sweet Savior's love! Your words made me cry because I think you put so well how I feel a lot of the time, just in complete awe!
Have a happy Wednesday!

Hello Beautiful Harper and Mommy...I don't comment too often I don't have time. I was reading through Bible verses and this one seemed to fit you Mrs. Kelly Stamps...Psalm 107:2
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.

It is nice to have Blogs but our lives are meant to Glorify our Lord. And your Blog Glorifies God. Your life Glorifies God. I don't know what the fake blog was I don't get to blog much. But your Blog is a sweet blessing while we wait on our God. You keep reflecting God's Light!

Hi Kelly - I love your blog and Harper is just beautiful! I have never left a comment, but I just came to catch up on your blog since it's been a few days and I saw your jumperoo question. Here's my advice...it's so hit and miss with babies on what they will or will not like. We bought the exersaucer for our daughter (over $100) and she never liked it -we could MAYBE get 10 minutes out of it at a time. I felt like we wasted money and I felt horrible. BUT when our son came along...whole different story! He LOVED it and used it ALL THE TIME! Sooo even if it seems like you may be throwing money away, if you are planning on having another child, you can sorta justify the money spent because you will be using it with more than one baby. Also, even if Harper doesn't like it today, she may love it in a week or a month...you just never know with these kiddos! It may be worth a try!

Thanks for always being an encouragement and support for me.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the 'fake' blog. I am one of the devastated, disappointed, disillusioned ones after investing so much of my heart. But your words somehow made me feel a little better about it today and I don't feel like our prayers went for nothing...they truly need them, no matter whether the story is true or not.

My son did the 'no nap' thing for oh, the first 6 or so months of his life.. the only way he would nap was if I was carrying him in my sling. It was stressful, but now he is 2 1/2 and things are SO different.
And thank you for your thoughtful, Christ-centered words.

such great comments about the ummmm "blog"
i agree 100%
i feel betrayed by it and i hate the "witness" it was to Him, but it did have some real truth about God and the power of prayer. i just hate that it made us wary and untrusting of blogs.
but i loved your post and want to encourage you that it's okay to let harper cry a little when it's time to sleep. her learning how to comfort herself is a really great skill for her to acquire!

I know of the blog you write about and thought it was kinda fishy from the start. And, as much as it would be nice to help others, I strongly suggest no one donate any money to anyone's blog on the internet unless they personally know the person. It's just foolish! The world we all live in is unfortunately not safe enough to do kind human gestures like that anymore.
