A Hair-y Issue

It's a gloomy pj's kind of day around here. I had planned for Harper and I to stay in our pj's today because we aren't going anywhere and I needed to catch up on housework. It's a good thing because we are having a glamourous day today - let me catch you up. First Harper spit up all over her and me. So we both got CLEAN pj's on. Then Dawson threw up not once but twice all over the carpet. FUN! Harper had been laying in her bouncy seat and I went to pick her up and she had pooped all over herself. Pajama change #2. Good Times. Can't wait to see what the afternoon holds! ha!

Speaking of glamour...................

There is an anonymous commenter who seems very concerned about my hair and has now left me a couple of messages letting me know that they don't like the fact that I tuck my hair behind one ear all the time and that it's time for me to change my hairstyle.

I thought I would just share that if you are really interested - you can check out my hair-u-mentary to see I've had several styles and colors over the years. The thing is my hair is VERY thick, coarse and naturally wavy and I can't wear it without putting it behind my ears because it's too heavy and hangs in my face, bangs just curl up, and long hair takes too long to dry. This is just the way I wear my hair - some times it's long and sometimes it's shorter. I don't like my hair in pony tails or half up because I have a chubby face - even more so now.

(But if you have nice suggestions on ways I could wear my hair - I'd love to hear them. )
My favorite hair right now is Kelly Ripa and Elisabeth Hasslebeck. (I think I have been watching too much daytime TV) ha!

I just kind of think there are more important things in the world to worry about like sick children and the economy and lost souls than how my hair looks. (Don't get me wrong - my hair is very important to me - even if it always looks the same! ha!)
(P.S. You don't have to leave me comments and tell me you think my hair looks good. I just thought I better address this before I get 10 more comments on it.) ha!

One last thing.... there is a family who lives in AL and has 3 cute little boys. One of their boys has to have heart surgery in Houston in a few months and they are trying to raise money to help with their expenses. If you live in AL and maybe could help with a yard sale they are having ....check them out. You could also please pray for little Dylon.

I guess that anonymous commenter would totally hate me. My hair has been long and stringy my entire life. It won't curl, it looks stupid short (fat face syndrome), it looks stupid long.... it's...just...there. Tucked behind an ear, pulled back in a ponytail, or dangling around and getting tangly and in the way. BUT, I have THE CUTEST little boy ever, so who cares about my hair? And if you came to this blog and actually cared about the baby mama's hair, you totally missed the point.... it's all about HARPER! And it will be for, oh, the next 18ish years? :)

I think you have fabulous hair! ;)
Hope you had a good pajama day. We all need those days!

Harper is so beautiful! Your blog makes me miss those days of poop, dirty diapers, and spitting up (my three kids are past that season). Glad to hear you had a p.j. day. I am a behind the ears gal too, because I have very thick hair and I am into practicality, but I am glad your heart and life is about more significant eternal things. Praying for the Alabama family! Praying blessings for you and Harper tonight!

I love reading your blog and had to comment because a) I have had numerous "Mommy" days like yours and can relate! (Have you ever just completely cut a onesie off your child with scissors because you didn't know how else to get it off them without poop or puke getting everywhere?! Yep, been there!) and b) I love your hair and think you should keep it that way. Your hair memories were hysterical!! I am amazed at how dark it used to be and how big you were able to get it. Man, would I have been jealous back in the 80's! Lastly, Harper looked just precious in that Easter outfit. I'm so glad you were able to enjoy the service. I have a little boy and of course wouldn't trade him for a million girls, but I do live vicariously through you with all the great clothes/bows/hats/etc. you adorn Harper with. I'd be the same way!

Your hair is always perfect. I do LOVE Elisabeth Hasselbeck's hair style though. Adorable!!

Sounds like you had a "mommy" day, today.

I'm de-lurking for a moment. :-)

I know you said we don't have to do this, but I just wanted to tell you that I'm in love with your hairstyle and color - I can't pull off blond hair, but my style is very similar to yours, just auburn in color. And like you said, there are SO many more important things to deal with in the world!! I have a debilitating chronic illness, so my hair is usually the last on my list of priorities. Anyways, I just think you're gorgeous, inside and out. I always look forward to visiting your blog and seeing pictures of your GORGEOUS family (that little darling of your is beyond precious!).

Your hair is lovely, I like it short in a bob and behind your ears!

Erin Marie said...

Ha! The funny thing is I was thinking about taking a picture of you the next time I get my hair done because that's EXACTLY what I want!

mn said...

That's funny about the hair comments because your new blog header photo just made me think how nice your hair looks. In fact in every photo your hair looks nice, which is a lot more than I can say for my hair. Honestly if you find a style and color that's flattering and easy, you're doing better than most!

People are strange! From one hair-tucker to another - you look great!

And Harper is as sweet as ever!

your hair is beautiful! i have very thick course hair also, so i understand about the tucking behind your ears! mine drives me crazy when it's in my face! i especially love the pictures of hair from the past! brings back memories! don't think twice about someone's rude comments!!

Wow, the things people find time to comment about! LOL
You have a beautiful family and it looks like God has truly blessed you!

All I've got to say is you have a cute hairstyle, you are a new mom and it needs to be easy to fix. Mine is also naturally curly and so much easier to fix when it's about the same length as yours.

The Thornton Family said...

I think your hair is cute! And I'm not just saying that because you asked us not to. ;) You have to do what works for you. My hair has been the same (just longer or shorter) for years!

Sorry y'all had a rough day. Hope today is better!

Girl, You could have NO hair and be cute as eva!!! I hate puke, but love PJ days! Loved all of the 80~90's hairdo's!!! I'm your age, so I recognized all of the hair, clothes and makeup! (I had a balloon outfit too! fun! fun!)

DreamTNM said...

Love reading your blog and praying for families. ;) Never met you but from all your pics I think your hair is beautiful and great just the way it is! You have a beautiful family too!

Callisters said...

I think that is so funny people care about your hair! I think you look darling just the way you are. But I am just like you and have tons of hair, so the one thing I do is get the ends thinned out a TON!!! That is the only way the top of my hair is not to heavy. I love PJ days, in fact they happen more often then clothes days! I just love photos of your little Harper, she is darling! I also have a little baby store where I make hairbows, bracelets, babylegs, etc. I would love to send you some, so I will be emailing you for your address. Thanks again for the daily posts!

OK, first of all whoever made that comment about your hair needs to get a life! Seriously =) You always look fabulous, and I loved the hair time-line =)I don't know if I would have the guts to do my own!

okay.. your hair-u-mentary... HYSTERICAL.. what a great idea!!
I think you are just beautiful! I also REALLY like your hair curly in one of the pics!

We have to change outfits everyday from spit-up and "leaky diapers"! I am just learning to adjust to the smell of spit up because I am always wearing it! Definitely glamerous!!!

Unknown said...

HAHAHA!!! I laughed at the idea of someone commenting to you about your hair! WHO CARES!!!!! Some people spend too much time on unimportant things!!! Here's to spending more time on Harper and not hair!!!

Penny said...

Now you know the "real" day of a Mommy! It all about things coming from one end to the other. It never ends either.

Yesterday we had our #1 ranking awful diaper in history whn Kendall pooped completely down her leg and into her socks!!!! Ofcouse hitting everybit of clothing on the way. I think that is the one and only time I curse onsies! not fun......
and for the record around here I am lucky to run a brush through my mess once a day and I have corse, thick, hair too.......

Love the girly girls........

Amy said...

I feel your hair pain. I have what I call "horse hair" which means that it's thick, course like straw, and also wavy. I don't know what we ever did before hair straighteners. What I love is that every hair dresser I go to always says "you have enough hair for three people" and then they proceed to complain all the way through coloring my hair about how long it takes. *Sigh*

Kelli said...

You are funny. I'm with you on the hair thing. I'm constantly tucking my hair behind my ears because, seriously, who on earth can stand their hair in their face all day long. You wear your hair proudly any way you want - it looks great. And I'm not just saying that because I have to - I'm saying it as vindication for all of us hair tuckers!

Misty said...

Hey Kelly,
Long time follower-first time commenter here...As someone who also has thick wavy hair (and that very annoying crease at the crown of my head), let me just say "I get it." I'm going on my third straight iron and am to the point that I want to get a perm so I can just wash, "scrunch" and go in the morning. When I brought up the perm idea to my stylist she about strangled me. Guess I'm sticking with my straight iron...Have a great day - Harper is a doll - I love the pictures you take of her. God bless. Misty

I love your Blog Kelly!! Harper is too cute!

love your blog AND your hair! I am a new mommy myself and have a very similar style...although, I do need a cut. :)

Do you know what is SO ironic? I was looking at your picture with Harper yesterday and I thought "Her hair looks SO GOOD styled like that. I wish I could get mine to look that great." I'm not even kidding. Regardless, you're right--there are so many more important things to be concerned with. Thanks for reminding us!

MAN!!!! what is up with the poopy diaper mess. seriously?!? like, can someone not invent something that will contain the poop? i just don't understand it. cleaned one up just yesterday. man, oh man... not griping. promise. just saying. =)

I've been trying to figure out a new way to do my hair too! It's thick thick thick and summer is rapidly approaching here in Carolina and I cannot STAND to have it in my face. I love what you do with yours. And i'm going to ask my stylist to give me the "kelly" cut soon! Best wishes!

Well, as you always say...it's such a small world! It truly is...Dylon's family lives about an hour from where we used to live in AL! I am trying to play "catch up" on my blog, as I am a few days behind but will be sure to share the info about Dylon. I will be sure to make certain my family knows about it so they can spread the word too. They look like such a sweet family...such cute boys! :)

I LOVE your new blog design! So cute!! And, btw...I like your hair, too! I always think it looks so stylish and cute!

Hope you and Miss Harper are having a CLEAN afternoon!! It's rainy here, too, so Tucker (my furry baby) and I just enjoyed a walk in the rain!! Ok, he enjoyed more than I did!! haha

Okay-I checked out the Hair-u-mentary to be fully knowledgeable before giving an opinion. I, too, have VERY thick and coarse hair. Glad to have a fellow sufferer. ha- My pick for you...the style and color that you had while wearing the velvet-ish outfit. Darling, and looks like it would be good hair for a SAHM, too!
Happy Tuesday!

How funny that someone feels the need to comment on your hair.... and to do so anonymously?! Ha! I must say... as a pregnant woman who hardly has the energy to comb my hair... I am often jealous of how great your hair looks. Even as you waited to deliver Harper in the hospital bed... your hair looked great!

Jamie said...

Obviously I am a day late but can I just say rude!!!! I would like to see what her hair looks like. Your hair looks great, especially after all you have been through and ARE going through as a new mommy. By the way your face is not fat or chubby but I know what you mean when you feel that it is. Not every hair style will work with that. Keep your hair just the way YOU want to keep it. It looks great!

Okay, so I'm a little late, but SERIOUSLY?????????? over the whole hair thing. That cracks me up! Kelly, you've got great hair, you look fabulous, and you are right on--there is much more in the world to concern ourselves with someone else's do! Boo to "Anonymous"...looks like he/she is outvoted about 10,000 to 1 ! :)
But it was worth it to revisit the hair-u-mentary...still ranks up there w/ my all -time favorite posts: seeing you holding Harper for the first time, learning of her coming home, and your dance moves that Scott didn't think you'd have the guts to post! :)

Hey! You don't know me, but I was told by my BFF to look at your website b/c your story is amazing and your daughter is too! I just wanted to say that you are a beautiful, Godly woman and I love your hair! Some people are just so rude. That person who said those comments about your hair is probably insecure about their own looks. Anyway, I too live in AR and I used to live in Rogers, but now I live in C. AR. My husband and I go up there a lot though b/c I still have family up there. I will always love NW AR! May God bless you & your beautiful family!

I sure do enjoy checking in on you to see what's going on! I love your advertisements too! I have now ordered some really fun jewelry from Sam Moon-I had never heard of it! Thanks!!!!

Hey Kelly I missed reading this post...hmmmm I wonder sometimes if this isn't teenage girls posting these types of comments they seem immature comments to be made by a young adult or young parent. I like your reply maybe it will help them understand that as they mature there are more important things then hair style.

xsmom said...

I seriously love the "I started wearing my hair curly" hair, it looks awesome. Your pictures were hilarious, I actually laughed out loud! The make-up, the hair, the outfits, too funny. I wonder what our own kids will laugh at when they grow up and look at old pictures. Anyway, thanks for posting that!~

That's so funny you post this!! I'm thinking of going that length too, I'm just sick of my hair and having Baby Carter ALWAYS spitting up in it; I have to wash it almost 2 times a day because of that.

I love your hair! I would love mine to look like yours. It is also cury and thick and I end up looking like I have a "fro" when it's short! You look adorable!

Kelly, you always have awesome hair. And great earrings.

'nuff said. :)

Unknown said...

Coming from a girl who has very very thick, curly when its wet hair! I feel you when you say you are always putting your hair behind your ear, I do the same thing! Otherwise it hangs in my face! Have you ever tried thinning your hair when you have it cut? I did that about 6 years ago and it has forever changed my life!!!! You are not alone in the thick hair fight every day!!!

Exumabound said...

I can't believe people comment about your hair -OMG... can't they see what is important here, it's your care for Harper and what you are going through being a new mom. People are so shallow.

Bailey's Leaf said...

Don't sweat the hair comments. Wear it however you want.

At least you have hair! Some folks don't!

I think you are one "Hot Mama"! I wish i looked that good when my little girl was only 3 months old. I think you have beautiful hair and i wish mine would do what yours does. Tucked behind your ear and all. :)

Julie H. Schaal said...

My mom used to have a "thing" about people who would tucked their hair behind their ears. She did not look it-not done up enough, I guess. Might this be a person of an older generation:? I'm not too much older than you, my mom is just fussy like that.

You always look great by the way! Good hair heroes to choose, too.

Hey Kelly! I have never commented before, BUT I wanted to say, if you are refering to the amangoprincess commenter, I noticed that this "princess" is commenting all over the blogs I read with nasty comments...so, if this is the commenter, just know, its a game she/he is playing.. There has been a trend here lately of bloogers defending themselves and when I got to looking through the comments, amangoprincess is all over the blogging world leaving hatrid behind...

With all of that said, I LOVE your blog because, you my friend are TRULY transparent.
