THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION

I get asked this question at least 25 times a day from all of you.......

"When are you going back to work or are you going to stay home?"

And I couldn't answer that for you.

Until today.

I went and met with my boss this afternoon and let him know that I had decided to take a better job. (and I had an awesome job to start with)!

The pay is a WHOLE, WHOLE lot less.
There will be no raises or bonuses.
No company car.
No annual reviews.
The hours are a LOT longer.
I have to work nights and weekends.
I don't get vacation time or sick days.
I can't call in for "mental health" days.
I have to work all major (and minor) holidays.

But my new boss? He is SUPER CUTE!
And the person reporting to me - PRECIOUS!

Meet my new co-worker.

The little person reporting to me and I plan to have lots of "working lunches", "performance reviews", "coachings" and "team building exercises". I can't fire her so we are in this for the long haul.

As of tomorrow morning, after I clean my office out and turn in my keys, company car, and credit card - I will be starting the job I have dreamed of since I was a girl.

I will be a Stay at Home Mom.

I've never been happier in my entire life.

YEAH! CONGRATS KELLY! I am still in DEEP DEEP prayer that i can do the same. Right now, it's non-negotiable, but w/ God, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE! I can't even talk about it when people ask me w/o tearing up b/c i'm already dreading having to leave her to come back. Please pray for God's will through this b/c I do want to be a SAHM but my job here at the college has EXCELLENT benefits, vacation & sick leave, not so good pay for me, and is a secure job... Just pray.... my heart is troubled by the thought of leaving Shelby when she's born... i immediately change the subject when i'm asked. My hubby would have to get another raise, a good one, to substitute my pay and the cost it would cost to add me and the lil one to his insurance. right now, we will just have to pay for shelby and that's it... it's tough but God is good and His will is perfect..if i'm to work, i'll work, if i'm to be a SAHM, then i'll be one... needin prayer.. having mental breakdowns A LOT lately... this 3rd trimester stuff is nuts! i love the 2nd trimester! haha

That is awesome! It is the best job in the world and I LOVE it. I can't imagine being anywhere else but with my son every day. You will love being with Harper every day and you will love getting to see how she changes every day. I think it is the best thing for Harper and for your family because my mother-in-law always told me, "No one can love a baby like their mother can." And that's so true. I'm so glad everything worked out for you.

It is a blessing to stay home. Beware for some of "those" days. Probably not for a while, but when she is a few months older, you might have a day when your wondering what the heck was I thinking. Just get in the car and go get your self a Sonic drink and take a breath.
I always seem to be going somewhere with my kids. Which helps. Once she can get out, see if your library has baby classes you can take her to.
CONGRATULATIONS!

Congrats about staying home! That is DEFINITELY a promotion!

When we had our first 7 1/2 years ago, we thought I needed to work part time just to make ends meet. But God was so faithful, in just a few short month (ok, long to me!) he spoke to my hubby and I'm forever grateful! We realized the things we thought we NEEDED were only luxuries. We didn't need to keep up with the Jones', we didn't need cable, etc, etc. And it's been one the best decisions of our lives! I know some truly need that 2nd income, but for us it was a matter of what we could and wanted to give up.

Yay for you!

Welcome to the SAHM club! You're gonna love it. :)

I've been doing it for 4 1/2 years...I would not trade it for anything! There are times when it's not easy...but the good days FAR outweigh the difficult ones. And the reward...oh, so worth it!

Let me encourage you to make a small group of friends who are also stay-at-home-moms - they will be invaluable to you, I promise! Play dates are the best ... not only for the kiddos, but for the Moms to be with each other, too! Wishing you the best...congrats on the new job! :)

OMG!!! That is what I am doing too! My last day was Thursday, then next week is Spring Break for my older kids, and the following week, just me and my baby (who is 14 months) I like you am so excited, relieved, anxious, all at once--I know it is the most rewarding, I am just afraid I will not be able to juggle, the house stuff--cleaning, organizing, clothes washing, etc. and fulfill my daughters needs to be inspired and have fun—so if anyone has any pointers, please let me know. I know you will do great, and I am so happy for you and I am sure Harper is too!

Wanting a child or a husband seem like such small things compared to losing a husband.

I would like to ask that we all pray for a family that has just lost their husband, father, grandfather, friend, mentor...

My husband is a military police officer. His friend and mentor Lieutenant L. Hite died at 8pm on St. Patty's Day. His wife discovered his body. He was only in his fifties, in good health but died of a Pulmonary Embolism. The whole dept is in shock as well as his family. Please pray for the Hite family and the officers, sailors and soldiers all over the world that loved Lt. Hite.

Thank you. Without him, my husband wouldn't have been able to be with our daughter when she was sick in the hospital. He was a very great man.

Congratulations! Best promotion you'll ever get! Still waiting for my promotion to sahm, but it'll come in God's time. God bless, and my mom said she never had a better paycheck! I'm sure you'll feel the same

Congratulations.... That's the most rewarding job of all.... Well done.

Becky said...

PTL for your decision!!!! I made the same decision (excuse me, took the same promotion) 16 years ago. I have NEVER regretted being home with my precious daughters. (Who are now 21 and 16). There are times, especially when children are in the toddler years, that the time seems it will never pass. But one day, you will blink and Harper will be grown. Cherish these times. I will pray for you as you adjust to a one income family. As we know The Lords economy always works! Love you!

Wonderful news! I am on the opposite end of the spectrum - been home part time for 6 years and home full time the past 7. My baby is starting kindergarten in the fall and I may go back (part-time!) when he does. I can say, without a doubt and in spite of the many sacrifices, it is a decision that I have never regretted!

Enjoy these precious years!

As others have said, CONGRATULATIONS and like the Army says, "IT IS THE TOUGHEST JOB YOU WILL EVER LOVE!!". O.k., now that you are at home with that sweet baby and going to MOPS meetings (great suggestion!!), maybe you should consider homeschooling that little one in a few years. You have the perfect personality for a homeschooler!
