Pretty Woman

I'll do a better update later today but for now - I just HAD to share these pictures!!!!

I know she's mine - but oh my word I love her!!! They have spent all morning trying to get a PICC line in (it's a semi-permanent thing they put in to put all her IV's in so they don't have to constantly stick her.) They tried a ton of places and couldn't get it in (they even had to shave her head in two places to try to put it there). But that's okay - we have so many hats and head bands to cover up those shaved spots. I took a sweet hat in and I knew it would make her feel better. She was so alert - looking around at us.
Her little eyes are pretty blue right now but we know they could turn dark by summer. I really don't care either way but I think she looks just gorgeous either way.

Pray they can get her PICC line in - they will probably try again tomorrow. Other than that - she continues to do really well. They are going to let her rest tomorrow from all tests and procedures (except the PICC).

We are ICED IN big time here at the hospital. It is a mess outside - but we are so glad to be so close to the hospital where it's warm and we can spend time with our little sweetie!!!

P.S. I just wanted to add that our sweet girl is OFF her nitrate Oxide (I don't even know what that means except it's GOOD) and she is down to 26% oxygen!!) She will get to start feeding tomorrow or Thursday! She's a Stamps - she won't have ANY trouble eating!!
Also - ya'll are wearing the nurses out with all the mail and packages we have been getting!!!!! Thank you for all the sweet cards and gifts!!! I'm not going to put them on here today but you have thank yous coming - I promise!!!!!

I love you all for loving Harper so much!

I just found out about your sweet, precious angel girl and wanted to let you know that I will be praying....my first baby, Bennett, was born with very similar circumstances at full term and ended up having to go on ECMO for 16 days. He is now a fiesty 17 month old, but we were in the Georgetown NICU for 70 days and I still very vividly remember each time that oxygen dial went up or down with each blood gas report. It is such an emotional roller-coaster, especially while you are trying to pump every 3 hours and absorb all that is happening to your sweet baby.....having had no time to really "prepare" for this leading up to the birth. God is so faithful~ He has walked with us each step of the way and it is incredibly clear that He is working in MIGHTY ways with sweet Harper. I will be praying for all of you, and if you have any questions or just need to vent feel free to email me at kellyjspeck@hotmail.com. My heart is with you!!!

I've been following your story since you had Harper and I just couldn't help but comment this time-- that hat and bow!!! It's just too cute, I can't take it!!! I love witnessing God's miracles and watching this unfold has been amazing. It has also helped me be so grateful for my healthy 2 children. Healthy kids are nothing to take for granted-- and you'll be the first to know that once Harper is healthy and happy at home after all you've been through. May God continue to bless and keep you.

Found your blog through a friend's. Wanted to let you know that I am praying for you here in Los Angeles. I'm also a pediatric nurse practitioner at a local children's hospital. I'm sure you know this, but 21% oxygen is that same as what is in room air----so once she's down to 21% it will be the same as air. That is usually the goal before taking a patient off oxygen---so only 5% more! Can't wait until that happens!

She is so precious. Those open eyes just light up her entire face! We've got your button on our blog so all of my blogging friends know about this sweet girl.

In my prayers for you I have thought of a silver lining to this experience...

In the coming years I think you and your husband will always be able to remember those first, awful hours and be unable to ever take Harper granted. You'll always know so clearly the feeling of almost losing her that you'll never be able to experience ordinary moments without looking upwards and thanking God for allowing this little miracle to bless your lives.

What a blessing! My husband and I have been praying for you daily! It's so neat for my husband to run into the room and say "Baby Harper is at a certain % oxygen level"- he has followed your blog so much! It's just so neat! We are having a baby in June so completely understand the worry of being a new mother! May God continue to bless your family! Remember that in All things God works for the good of those who love Him, according to His purpose"- Romans 8:28

Kelly, I've been reading your blog for about 1 week now and I feel like I've known you forever! I know you have so many comments to read over but I wanted to let you know that I am a Nursery Nurse and Lactation Consultant in Alabama and that if you ever have questions about milk supply or breastfeeding you can contact me. It appears that Harper is now turning the corner and it's so great to see her improving. I was so happy to see her little eyes this morning when I logged on. What a blessing. Feel free to contact me at jengallahar@bellsouth.net if I can help you.

God Bless!!

Kelly, the first thing I do after returning from a long day at work is check on little Harper's progress -- oh what wonderful new! God is SOOO good!

Harper is more beautiful with every single posting. I hope the good news keeps pouring in and soon she'll be going home to her family.

Praying they can get the PICC line installed tomorrow. Praying for all the little angels in NICU and the families and friends that love them. Thank you for sharing Harper with us.

Take care of you.

I must tell you that between Harper, Stellan (over at mycharmingkids.net)and so many others, I have found renewed faith not only in HIM - but also in my fellow humans!

It is way too easy to see only bad, between TV, newspapers, etc. I think these sharing blogs have been created just to lead us back to HIM and help us find the good there really is in this world!

When things slow down, you have got to get to a print shop and have them print this entire blog (comments and all) into a book for Harper! Can you imagine her at 18 or 20, seeing just how many people cared sooooo much!

Congrats on all the progress - and my prayers will continue to flow!

Kelly and Scott-
I recieved a link to your blog from my sister's blog in Fayetteville, AR! Her mother-in-law and my father both have cancer and we she was asking for prayers and included Harper in her request. I have spent all day catching up from day 1 of your blog and crying! Not only am I so thankful for your beautiful baby doing well but, also for your blog. Seeing all these people who don't even know you reach out in prayers, cards, gifts, etc. shows me that in a crazy world we live in, that there are still good people! I love that. God has BIG BIG plans for Harper and you must keep blogging so we can follow her! Thanks for the blogging. People really are great. You and your family will be in my prayers daily!

Good luck with the PICC line tomorrow. Don't get discouraged. They couldn't get a PICC line in on my baby at all when she was in the NICU. They even tried to do a cut down on her little arms with no luck but they did finally get a BROVIAC line in. I'll be saying prayers for your little Harper. She's a fighter!

I am in tears just reading about this! My baby is just 10 months old, and I know you can't imagine this now, but you will grow to love Harper even more! It is rough trying to find little veins. We went through watching them poke ours over and over. It was too much to bear, but they finally did it! God is good!

Kelly,

We don't know one another at all, but from one Christian/Mother to another, I wanted to let you know that I will be lifting your little girl up in prayer daily. A blogger friend of mine found your blog and asked us "bloggers" to take a look-and I'm glad I did!! As a mother of two boys, I cannot fathom the emotional roller coaster that you and your family have gone through the past couple of weeks. Praise God that we can turn to him when we need to seek refuge from the storm! I hope you feel the prayers on behalf of your little girl from southern Alabama.

Love it, love it, love it!! This and the last post have been what I have been waiting for - to peer into those beautiful eyes and see her precious little soul! So much can be "said" without her needing to say or express a single thing. "I love you and thank you for loving me as much as you do Mom and Dad"! Oh I'm sure you are just ready to take all the tape and tubes off, pick her up your arms, put a cute frilly outfit on her and take her home with you forever! Soon and very soon as we all can see now the miracle that God has done and continues to do! Praise God!!

With him on our side we can conquer anything! Sending tons of love and prayers to you! Hang in there!
