Harper's Birthday Part 1

Update at 1:30
I'm almost to a 5!!!! I am so hungry and I'm dreaming of a sonic route 44 coke with vanilla. But my dr let me have a popsicle. I do believe it was the best popsicle I've ever had. So far I have to say that childbirth is great! I've been praying for about 9 months that God would let my labor be just like this! Thank you for answered prayers!

Update (11 a.m.):
So far - this is so much easier than I imagined. Thank you to the inventor of the epidural. Dr. Hinton broke my water a couple of hours ago and they started the pitocin and I'm having regular contractions but I only know that because I see them on the monitor. :-) They just checked me and I'm dilated to a 2.5 so we are progressing a little bit! I'm in no hurry since I'm in no pain. My mother (a.k.a. the papparazi) has taken at least 700 pictures of me laying in the bed. ha! I hope she saves some room on her card to take pics of Harper. ha!

Me and big daddy! :-)
All the grandparents anxiously awaiting the birth

Laurie came to see me! I was glad to see her!
Good morning from the hospital!!!!!

This blog is as much my journal and scrapbook as it is anything so I am hoping to keep a little running memory of this special day! So bear with me!
It's 6:30 and I got my IV in (first one ever) and I'm settled in. They say I should be able to get my epidural in another hour or so! PTL!!!
I didn't sleep 5 minutes last night due to a mix of excitement and terrible cramping I was having.
So far everything is good - we are just hanging out.

The worst thing so far is trying to figure out how on earth to get my hospital gown on. ha!

Update: I got my epidural. It didn't hurt at all and now I don't have to have pain. I love modern medicine!!! My parents are here and Scott's will be here soon. We are just hanging out - taking pictures, checking e-mail, watching TV!

P.S. Please continue to pray for my friend Jenna and her precious baby Brayden who was born on Tuesday. They had to take him to Children's Hospital in Little Rock and he's in critical care. They truly need our prayers.

Yeah! Praying all goes well and can't wait to see Harper. Just a little tid-bit: When I had my son, I was induced the same time of day as you (on a Friday!!) and was exactly 5 cm at the same time as you and my son was born at 8:30pm. But I pushed for 3 hours and I hope you don't have to do that! God Bless you all!

Hi Kelly! I've been following your blog for awhile now and can't wait to "meet" Harper! And yay for epidurals! I thought I should go the "all natural" route, and after 38 hours, I finally realized okay, not for me, got the epidural, and was SO relieved and it made for a much better experience than it would have been (9lb 12oz baby boy!) So good for you for not putting yourself through that and having a GREAT experience for one of the biggest events in your life!

Good luck today. This is such a special time and I hope you take it all in and etch it in your memory.

Kandi West said...

Isn't the hunger terrible? I had to snooze just to get my mind off of it. And no popsicles for me! They must really like you. Maybe they you have already started handing out those nurse gifts! I still remember that after Lowrey FINALLY got here (11:46 PM and I was induced at 5:00 AM thank you very much), I loved on her for a while and then I said "DOES ANYONE HAVE SOMETHING TO EAT AROUND HERE???". They made me wait for a while for some reason and I thought I would go nuts. I still remember that I had the best tasting turkey sandwich in the world at 2:30 AM. I'm sure it would not taste that good now, but it was like manna from heaven then. Oh, I'm sure I'm making this worse for you. Sorry. But then you ARE sucking on that popsicle in the picture. All I got were ice chips. It surely can't be long now. I've just discovered that I can look at your mom and dad's blogs, too. It is like a reality show! I'm loving it. Hang in there. I recommend a nap soon. Seriously.

Hi Kelly,

I keep checking to see if your beautiful baby girl has arrived. My husband just asked "Did Kelly and Scott have their baby yet"? It's too funny because he's getting excited too! Our three children are away in college and you are just starting your wonderful journey.

Know that you and Scott and the grandparents are in our thoughts and prayers.

Wishing for a safe delivery and a happy, healthy Harper!

Love,
Margaret, Virginia Beach, VA

Kelly, Scott, AND Harper!

Just read the exciting update on your daddy's blog. What a glorious day that the Lord hath made! I AM rejoicing!

And as a side note, Ben (my oldest) was 9lbs. 15oz. at birth so if you need any encouragement, I am your go to woman. The recovery will be long but well worth it (as I know you know). Just give yourself extra time to recover. All you need to do is lay there and hold that baby!

Congratulations! I am VERY thrilled and thankful for Harper's arrival!

And I am praying her breathing picks up! Ben had similar issues and they were resolved quickly. I pray the same is true for you and am trusting the Lord with her!

This is my first time visiting your blog, Kelly, I came from Bring the Rain. I'm on my knees in prayer for sweet Harper's full recovery. May the doctors hands be guided by our gracious God in healing all of her breathing difficulties. May He give you peace and comfort during this time. ((Hugs))

As I read your blog I am in awe at how good God is. Here you are beautiful in labor asking for prayer for Brayden only to find out in a few hours you would be in Jenna's same shoes. God is good. He creates the moments in our lives to show us what he can do.
