Cold Icy Day outside - WARM day inside

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!

As soon as I posted - the nurse came out and got us and said she had eyes open and to come see her!!!!
I cried so hard when I saw this!
I'm sure she was thinking "my momma is crazy - all she does is cry"
This was such a special moment for us - we got in on video and on film
She gripped her daddy's finger - she knows we love her!

It is a cold day outside full of ice and sleet. It looks like we will be iced in here tomorrow! Luckily we are staying right next to the hospital. It's been a pretty quiet day but we got a lot of sweet cards and packages and we enjoyed looking at those. I wanted to share a few things with you. We are so grateful for the outpouring of love to us!

I got this sweet package from Footprints Ministry in AL - they send these to NICU patients and there were all kinds of neat goodies inside.
I got this neat basket from the Butchers in SC - they make these baskets and send them to NICU patients - there were the cutest things in here like Mary Jane socks and a bow headband and a rattle and blankets. You can see there website here.
This wonderful girl, Christina and her son Parker came to visit us today!!! We were so glad to meet them!
Cindy and Liberty Matthews heard about Scott promising Harper a pony - and she found this onesie and sent it to Harper - isn't it perfect??????
I got this precious necklace and these Paci clips ( are they not the CUTEST) from Brittany. I love them!!!!
And Brandi made me this necklace - you better believe I'll be wearing it!!!!
We went and ate lunch today with some other NICU parents. They are really sweet and have twin girls in here. It was nice to visit and have some friends in the same boat. (Well kind of - Harper weighs twice both of their girls put together - but you know what I mean).
Okay - you are probably wondering about a Harper update. You may notice in the pictures that my eyes are pretty swollen. I have cried a lot today. But they have been HAPPY tears!!! Harper is now on a regular ventilator - not an oscillator - which is WONDERFUL news!!!! HUGE! They have started waking her up and we just went in and saw her move her little fingers and toes and mouth. I can't tell you how exciting seeing those little feet move is to us!

We have never asked "why" about Harper. Not once. We believe everything happens for a reason. And that has been confirmed again to us today - I got THREE e-mails today from people who got saved because of the story of this little girl. Not because of me or Harper - but because of God working through us. Is there anything better in the whole world than that???? Keep praying - not just for Harper, but for the other families in NICU's everywhere, and for people's lives to be changed.

Harper has no idea how many lives she has touched. People I know that have not prayed for years, have been down on one knee, asking the Lord to blanket her in His love and to provide you and Scott with strength.

I couldn't be happier. What a blessing!

Kelly and Scott, Can this baby get any prettier. Those eyes. Kelly your writing are a blessing to so many. You crown is going to have so many stones in it I'm not sure your head will hold it up. You didn't just sit and wait on the Lord to come . You prasied him all the way. You showed no fear as you faced everyday. You just waited. You have pointed out all the love people have given you, do you know all the love you gave, all over the world to people. The love of faith. Faith that there is no mountain that you have to go alone. What a blessing you are.The Lord's heart is so full of love for you. God bless all of you. P S so glad he took care of that almost cold. You would have really cried if Scott had gotten to see those pretty eyes and you had to wait.

Our own little boy had a horrible start like this and we didn't know if he'd live.

It's a really rough way to start out the parenting journey! It will definitely change your parenting. You will appreciate every last thing about her so much more because you know you could have lost her.

I've known for years that God has something special in store for my son because of the way he entered the world and because of the things we deal with in our lives right now.

I'm so happy that your little sweetie is improving!

Oh Kelley I know you and Scott can hardly contain yourselves! Harper has BEAUTIFUL eyes. I've never seen anyone look so much like their mommy as Harper does you!

I can't wait until we get the first pictures of y'all holding here in your arms. OH the love!!!!

My hubby asks about Harper everyday and even my 77 year old mom ask about her yesterday. She hears me talk about y'all so much.

Just wanted to let you know we are still praying here in Newport and can't wait for the next update.

We're expecting that nasty ice tonight and tomorrow. Stay warm and try and rest! Give your mom a hug for me. I really miss her.

what a beautiful baby girl. you are all in my prayers.

I am so, so happy that Harper is doing so well! You both also seem so much more at ease. :)

I have a little girl, Katie, who is 13 months now. When she was 18 days old she contracted Bacterial Meningitis and was on life support for over a week and in the hospital for a month and a half. It was THE scariest time in my life. It was pure terror, really.

I know what you're going through, being in the NICU. It's tough enough having your own baby sick, but seeing all of the other babies is hard too.

Praying for you all!

Kristine

Kelly,
I discovered your blog right after Harper (love the name!) was born through Fran, a.k.a."Blessed by Him" -- we live in the same town and go to church together and have been following Harper's story ever since. Just wanted to send you a note to encourage you and let you know I have been praying for you. I have a 12 year old miracle boy living in my house. Circumstances were different but he was put on ECMO and so many of your experiences were ours. I have related to almost EVERYTHING you have blogged about. We went through so many of the same things and experienced all the same emotions, and received very similar outporings of love and support. There is just no beating the Christian community during a time like this. I have often wondered how others ever get through tough times with out Christ and His body of believers. Your daily news has caused so many flashbacks for me. Today was one I loved as much as you -- seeing their eyes for the first time! Precious. It is such a blessing to hear about how this has affected souls for eternity! I've always said no matter how long Patton lives or what he does in his life God has already used him more for His Glory and that of His Kingdom than most of us may ever experience. All at the ripe old age of 7 weeks. I feel a kinship to you and feel as though I have some small insight in how to pray for you, Harper, your husband and all your sweet family. Be encouraged, continue to be strong, know that there are so many praying for you, including one momma in Tennessee.
Bless you,
Pam

God bless all of you!

PTL! I am praying, too! (I live approximately 90 miles from Tulsa.) We have a miracle baby in our church who was born at 28 weeks! They gave her zero chance, not b/c of her preemie state but b/c of her health issues. God touched her and she is doing remarkable! The doctors had to give God the credit. Our big God still works miracles! He is working one for Harper, too!

Love,
Sherry

She looks wonderful! I read that you were able to change her diaper the other day and thats fabulous! I think its so great to have parents participate in the babies care, for them and for you. Even when its just the littlest thing it helps you to bond with your baby. I'm glad to hear that she's off the oscillator, she's getting better everyday!

Love her bows...I'm not sure how you get them to stick though. We make bows for our babies, but as headbands. I'd love to know your secret...

I got to know your family during Carrie & Chris' wedding weekend in Corpus Christi. She has such beautiful little eyes. I know this was such an amazing moment for you and your husband. I'm so glad to hear that she's off of the oscillator! Praise God! Isn't it amazing how God works through our sweet babies to bring His children back to Him? I'm brought to tears when I think of the many lives that God changed through our baby girl.

On a sidenote, I was so excited to see the Footprints package! I'm wondering which of my sweet friends sent it your way. I can't wait to find out who it was. I was called to volunteer with this amazing ministry and I've loved every second.

I'm praying daily for strength and healing for Harper and peace beyond all understanding for your family.
