Yummy Yogurt

At the beginning of my pregnancy - I stocked up on yogurt for breakfast and I was so sick that the yogurt seemed to make it worse so I banned it from our kitchen.
But now I want to get more calcium in my body and I'm trying to eat healthy (except for the oatmeal cream pie(s) I just scarfed down) so I got some new yogurt. I got Stonyfield Greek Yogurt. It has 0 fat grams but 13 grams of protein. It's like eating meat. Where was this when I was on the Atkins diet all 25 times? It's really thick and creamy and keeps me from having to find another meal 10 minutes later.

I also found this great recipe for Curried Turkey Salad and I am so making this in the next week.

Ingredients:
1 1/4 cup Plain Oikos Organic Greek Yogurt
1 Tbs. curry powder
4 cups cooked turkey, cut into 1-inch chunks
1/3 cup scallions, finely chopped
2 cups seedless red grapes, halved
3/4 cup slivered almonds, or walnuts, toasted

Directions:

In a large bowl, combine the yogurt and curry powder. Add the turkey, scallions, grapes and almonds. Toss together to coat. Serve chilled.

I also discovered there is special yogurt for pregnant and nursing women and for babies. Anything to try to make Harper healthy and smart. :-) It's organic and has all those things that are good for babies like folic acid and DHA.

I happen to have two coupons for free yogurt and I will send them to you along with some more recipes in the mail if you will leave me a comment on this post. If you do not have a blog - PLEASE leave me your e-mail address so I can contact you. I want you to be able to try the yogurt for free. Or you could just buy some for yourself. :-) I'll draw a name on Friday morning.

P.S. This has been a week that I'm ready to have over with. We have gotten so much bad news this week. One thing after another. If it's not the fact that our country is about to go into another "great depression", it's a friend I used to work with calling me and crying because her grandchild is going to be born tomorrow at 28 weeks because the baby's mother has pre-clampsia and toxemia, or another friend's dad was diagnosed with a brain tumor. But I'm so glad to share a little good news because my precious friend Jamie is announcing today that she is having her third child. She is the best mother in the world and I'm THRILLED for her. I've been waiting and waiting for her to tell so I could move her to my "baby momma" list. Jamie - go get you some of that pregnancy yogurt! :-)

The yogurt looks wonderful - I want to try it badly! It has a ton of protein it - that rocks! I will have to try the recipe, too!

I will keep your friends in my prayers....and pray for a healthy pregnancy for your girlfriend, Jamie, as well!

If it's the Yo'Baby yogurt you are talking about... We keep them in business. Emma Kate is a HUGE fan! She really likes the kind with the cereal in it.

Yeah for yummy yogurt and recipes! Hope you're having a great night. And doesn't Texas play Arkansas this weekend? If you were coming to Austin this weekend, it would be awesome to meet you!

Congratulations to your expecting friend, and I'm sorry to hear about your friends and their families who are experiencing some rough times. I will say a prayer for them.

Yo Baby is the best--the sad thing is I eat as much of it as the kids! Jaiden always tells me to stop eating Jeryn's food! Ha! I have never tried the kind for mommies!

Sorry you have had a bad week. I could kind of sense that you were a little down in your last post. Hope you have a good weekend and I'm sorry about all the bad news.

I don't need any Yo Mommy, but the Greek yogurt I've seen and was afraid to try. I don't like some kinds of yogurt and tend to stick with what I know. I'll have to try it! I didn't realize it had SO much protein!

SO happy about Jamie and Lane's new addition. There may be another depression coming, but God is sure sending a rush of precious babies to bless us and bring us joy!!!

Love the recipe for the curry turkey salad, and the yogurt seems like a smart thing to try and stomach! Yogurt hasn't been my friend lately, but I normally love it, so I want to try and eat it when I can....I like the idea of 13 grams of protein!

Hi Kelly, I found your blog through my friend Rhonda and just love all your posts. I am 25 weeks pregnant...due on 1/5/09, so I've really enjoyed following your progress and all your bump shots.

I LOVE the Oikos yogurt and just had to comment after seeing you post about it tonight. I have been eating the plain to avoid extra sugar, but I just tried the vanilla this week and it is a good change. I like to add in berries and sometimes granola.

I have tried to the Yo Mommy yogurt and loved it but I would also like to try the Greek yogurt - the protien alone is worth giving it a try!
I am so sorry to hear that you are having a bad week. Times are so hard right now... I will be praying for your friend and her family.
Hope your week gets better and your weekend is fabulous.

You mentioned before that you are doing the Psalms of Ascent study right now, and I am too. Don't you love how Beth keeps saying that in God's economy, the way up is down?? Seeing friends in pain can make us feel helpless. I just praise God that we can "sing" to Him on their behalf. Also, that we can rejoice in His blessings, like sweet little babies! :)

Our little girl LOVES the yo baby -"Yo" as she calls it! She eats it everymorning for breakfast. Not only does it seem to help her with diaper rashes it also keeps her regular...if she misses a day of "yo" we know it! It is good stuff..tastes great. I'll have to try out the greek yogurt though, I've never had it! Yum!

Girl, I LOVE that yogurt!!! So good for you and no fat! I'm kind of a health food nut, but I like to sprinkle ground flaxseed on mine...it gives it a bit of a nutrition boost.

Hope you have a great week...sorry about all the bad news. :(

Hello Harper's Mommy,
Isn't that a fun new name for you? Thanks for the tip on the yogurt. It sounds delicious and I can't wait to try it! I'll be praying for that sweet baby and the man with the devastating news. We are so blessed to have the Lord to dump all of our worries and concerns on. Have a good evening!
Love,
Tiffany

I love that greek yogurt! Although, pregnancy has done something weird to me and has caused me to get a bad migraine anytime I eat any type of dairy! Weird! My doctor told me to take 2 chewable Tums with calcium a day and that would be sufficient. But still, I love that yogurt!

As soon as my power is restored, I will be trying that yogurt. It looks and sounds YUMMY! Have a great rest of the week. Please say a little prayer for my power to be turned on today, this pregnant Mommy needs it bad!

I have read good things about the Greek yogurt. I got burned out on yogurt at the beginning of my pregnancy, though. I need to give it another shot. My doctor also has me taking calcium chews during the day to supplement calcium. If you're not doing this, ask your doctor about them. You can buy them at the grocery store or anywhere that sells vitamins. I have the caramel ones by Viactiv.

I have tried to add a Lilypie Ticker to my baby blog. Can you let me know how you did it?

The Allens said...

That was super quick - thank you so much! I was trying to add it everyone BUT as a Gadget. Got it and appreciate your help!

I LOVE yo baby, even though I'm not a mom yet. Before yo MOMMY came on the market I was a nanny and couldn't help get into the baby's stash of yogurt! It's SO creamy!

I know what you mean about the crisis our country is about to be in...it worries me as well. I think it's times like these when our faith in God is tested. My motto: This, too, shall pass. Oh, and congrats on your friends pregnancy!!

I'm confused - is it plain yogurt - do you add it to anything - or do you just eat it plain? I am always looking for stuff with protein in it & the calcium is an added boost.

Kelly, I have been follwing your blog and I just LOVE your belly pics with whatever fruit or veggie Harper is supposed to "look like" each week! I enjoy hearing your ideas - you are so creative! I am 30 weeks along with our second baby (and first boy) and I would love to try something that will keep me from having to find something else to eat in 10 minutes...sounds like heaven! =) And I also happen to love yogurt!

My blog is private so here is my email: denise dot reese at yahoo dot com.

P.S. I would love to see some more pictures of your sweet baby book you've started.

It's crazy to think of all the really horrible things that happen everyday, sometimes to the people we love, while other wonderful, miraculous things happen as well. I think we're lucky to have hearts, and the ability to feel emotion to soak it all in, the good and the bad.

Yogurt makes me nauseous. I can eat it in very small amounts, if its the right texture. This sounds too thick for me. I've been eating FiberOne yogurt, but I found out it has high fructose corn syrup (which is bad for you, I'm learning), so I'm not buying that anymore.

Hello! I have started reading your blog recently and I love it! Ilove all your ideas and recipies!!! I was also wonder where you get your backgrounds? Your blog is soo cute!!

I'm definitely a fan of Stoneyfield Farms organics, their Yo-Mommy is yum! I've been going through phases with yogurt right now (4 months prego), but for the most part its something that I can eat that is quick and I don't have to cook! I need to look for that greek yogurt, and I definitely want to try your Turkey Salad recipe.

Your blog is too fun! :)

My mom and her co-teacher love that yogurt. I'm not a big yogurt fan, though. The only kind I will eat is Yoplait Light (it's blue) Boston Cream Pie. And I usually don't finish a whole container. I will have to try that other yogurt though. Maybe I'll like it.

Thank you for your note in your post. It's fun to make it on the '09 baby momma list! I wonder if you'll go all the way until '09 or if Harper will decide she wants to be a late December '08 baby!?

Kelly....I have been reading your blog for awhile now....I came across it from Angie Smith's blog..anyways..I think you have the greatest and cutest ideas for parties and just decorating in general...so I was wondering if you had any ideas for a college graduation party for my husband and myself. Trying to eat lots of protein these days. Sounds like good yogurt. Should go great with the salads I have for lunch everyday.

Will be praying for the precious baby of 28 weeks.

So excited to know about the yougurt!

The turkey salad recipe is almost identical to a chicken salad one I have except I obviously use chicken and I add like a cup of thinly sliced celery as well. Its really good in there if you like celery.

I would love some recipes!!
