We went today to hear the heartbeat. It was a little scary at first because my doctor used that thing that goes on your stomach to get the heartbeat and she couldn't find one. She kept saying "now - don't freak out" and I was trying really hard not to. My sweet friend, Catherine, had given me the wonderful verse "He who began a good work in you - will be faithful to complete it" (Phil 1:6) and I have repeated that over and over for the last two weeks. (Actually I kept singing that old Steve Green song - does anyone know what I'm talking about?)
So we moved into an ultrasound room and I was scared to death until I saw this pop up on the screen:
And there is our sweet little baby. It's upside down so the head is at the bottom and the body is at the top. We could see the heartbeat. We didn't get to hear it but this was so much better. I asked my doctor (who told me I could call her by her first name - ha!) what the heartbeat was and she said around 150 - and she said if I was thinking girl I might be right. :-) But it could just as well be a boy and we will be thrilled either way! I cried so hard when I saw this on the screen.
My due date is actually a day earlier (when I thought it should be) - so it's January 12th!
After my appointment - I headed to a lunch shower for a girl in my office. She is having a baby boy at the end of July. I got the petit fours - little rattles and booties!
We had a nice lunch and she got some cute things.
Yesterday, I got home to find a package from Heather. She sent me a journal, a cute notepad and a really neat book. She also sent me a "faith" ornament and a lovely card. Thank you soooooo much Heather! That was EXTREMELY thoughtful!!!!!! I love everything!

I am just thrilled beyond measure!! Love you friend!!!
Oh, Kelly! That's wonderful!! The picture is so sweet and you will be amazed as (she) grows, grows, GROWS!! (I'm thinking it's a girl! Alise's heart beat was 150the first time we heard it!) Congrats!
I'm so excited that you guys got to see it's little heart beat!! That is such a great experience! I saw on your ultrasound pics that you go to Parkhill. That's where I go too!! Who is your doctor?
YES! I remember that song. Anytime I hear that verse, that is what I hear in my mind!
And you know what? I think getting to SEE that little heartbeat was God's way of giving you another sneak peak at that good work that is alive and well in you!
have a wonderful weekend

So excited that you got to see the heartbeat too! We are still praying for you guys! Have a marvelous weekend!
Take care,
Rathi
Definitely know that song, and now I can't get it out of my head! (I guess that isn't necessarily a bad thing.) : )
I'm so happy everything went well this morning!!
I am so happy you got to see your baby. I know I don't know you but I am so happy for you. You will make a great mom.
Amy
Kelly, this is so exciting! We have all been praying for this day, so to see this ultrasound picture on your blog is just amazing. I love reading about your new baby!
So excited for you. I remember those days very well. Just continue to think positively and trust in the Lord. I know those 199 days seem like forever away but they will go by quickly. Try to enjoy each day of your pregnancy--it's such a special time and people are so nice to you!
Enjoy it all :) So happy for you...can't remember if I commented or not--but I was at MSU (Mississippi State) visiting family when I read your news....I instantly got chill bumps all over. What a glorious time for you to experience God's awesomeness. Just like you we were in the midst of infertility testing and such..and then God said...ok now I think is the perfect time for you to have a son.
Count it all joy!
love, ejw
Kelly - Oh, how exciting! I know it's been ten years since I heard my baby's heartbeat, but I remember the feeling. Nothing in the world like it! Congrats!
-A faithful blog reader
Woohoo! I love the heartbeat!! I am just beaming out here for you!!
You don't know how happy I am to see that little baby on the screen! Still so thrilled for y'all.
Wish you were with us this weekend!
The ultrasound picture is adorable. I can't imagine how excited you must be!
Another great verse is Jeremiah 29:11 - it's my personal favorite.
The same thing happened to me with both girls....couldn't find the heartbeat until we did the ultrasound. Very scary, I know. YAY! For that sweet little baby. I know you are so excited. Both my girls had heartbeats in the 175-178 range. I was worried about that too (can you tell that I am a worrier?).
I'm so thrilled. Thanks be to GOD!
I am so incredibly happy for you ;)! There is nothing better than seeing the heartbeat and knowing that you are carrying a beautiful blessing.
I am so happy that we (all of your blogging friends) are experiencing this with you ;)!
Girl...I know the Steve Green song. I sing it when I think of that verse. We sang it in youth choir years ago! :)
So glad you got to SEE the heartbeat! YAY!
Ok...cried when I saw the ultrasound picture!! :)
Seeing that sweet bundle makes your heart just melt doesn't it??
Hugs Kelly~
Fran
I remember seeing my son's heartbeat for the first time. That is the best feeling in the world. It only gets better!
I've had a "don't freak out!" moment or two, I know exactly of what you speak. Scaaaaaary.
And, the heartbeat telling what the sex is? It's been wrong for me every time! Go figure!
FUN BOOKS! I had a similar one to the "Birthed in Prayer" and so enjoyed it.
That's very sweet. Thanks for sharing such an intimate moment.
This is just the beginning of so many emotional moments, embrace every one of them.
I have a friend that is going through infertility & getting ready to do IVF. I've wanted to share your blog with her but I'm not quite sure yet - maybe I need to tell her to plan a trip to Hawaii.
PRECIOUS... Absolutely PRECIOUS! So glad you got to see that little miracle again! I am just thrilled for y'all!
Kelly, I know I don't even know you but I cried when I saw that baby's picture! God is SO, SO good!
Congrats again- you are so encouraging to everyone out there who is waiting for their "miracle!"
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo this is JUST PERFECT!!!!! the baby!!!! i see the baby!!!!!!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!! i say girl because i think i see an arm up dancing!!!!! jk i am so glad you put this up!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE that Steve Green song. haha! I am so thrilled about this wonderful ultrasound. This is all such a miracle. I have been smiling all day! I can't wait to see this baby!
What a wonderful day for you. This is such an exciting journey that you are on!!
Oh how neat!!!! I'm so happy everything was just fine!! How exciting for you. I always think an ultra sound makes it more real!
Be blessed!!
Both of my boys hearbeats were in the 150s. Also, we could not hear my boys heartbeats until about 14 weeks. How exciting! I love ultrasounds!
That is sooooo exciting. It finally seems really REAL when you see that little sweetie in there and you can see the heartbeat. It makes me think about the verse in Psalms, "I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made..." and then David goes on to talk about how God put that little body together in secret. But He is creating something so wonderful for you!! Happy, happy, happy!!!
Hi Kelly,
I am new to your blog but am so thrilled for what you're going through. My husband and I share a somewhat similar story to yours and I am waiting to become pregnant again. Your blog and story give me such hope! I'm so, SO glad that you got to see your baby today. I will be praying for a smooth and healthy pregnancy for you and baby...
Blessings!
Laura
wonderful news! and a first picture. so exciting.
What a special day! I am changing my prayers for you but still commit to pray, now for a healthy pregnancy and delivery! God is faithful and I continue to praise Him!
That little pic made my eyes water! I am beyond happy for you!
Have a great weekend!
Yea! I'm so glad you got to see your sweet little girl (or boy, but you know, it's probably a girl). Following my surgery I had a nurse that never could find the heartbeat. Every day she missed it, but the doctor found it everytime! BUT that being said, welcome to motherhood...freaking out is part of the game! :) We are all still praying for your little one and in no time you will be holding her in your hands (or him)!
Congrats Kelly! What a beautiful baby you have in there! =)
Yeah, now I've got that Steve Green song in MY head! LOL!
I love that you got to have an ultrasound and see the heartbeat!
Kelly, it rained here tonight and the sun came out afterwards and there was a big rainbow in the sky. I don't know if I'll ever not think of your rainbow in Hawaii when I see one. Anyway, it's a good reminder to pray for you!
Happy weekend!
Congratulations! Praying you and your baby stay healthy and strong.
Cindy
That is just wonderful Kelly. Isn't is so awesome to see that beautiful gift from God on that screen!! I know how you felt when they could not hear a heartbeat. That happened the first time for me and I was torn up...I don't even think my husband was w/ me that time. But they ended up hearing it PTL. And that is a fast heart rate!! I've got 2 girls..they do beat fast!!
Have fun Kelly..
YEY!! I am so excited for you! And a little jealous... you'd think after 4 babies I'd be over the pregnant thing... but no. I miss it. I felt so special every time. Even though I knew we all came from mothers who had been pregnant and there were millions upon millions of women who were pregnant right along with me... I still felt so special...like God allowed this special honor to be bestowed on just me. Silly I guess, but a great thing.
Congratulations again!
Yeah! We couldn't hear the heartbeat either so we had an ultrasound too. Our doctor was so laid back. So was like, "It's too soon. Just come back in a month." But we were like, "...eh...can we have an ultrasound just to make sure everything is ok?" They only cost $2 here. Congrats!
God is so faithful, I have been praying for you a lot and am so glad that He has again given you a reason to continue in faith. You are so sweet.
Have a great weekend!
What an adorable picture! Thank you for sharing it.
And, yes, I know the Steve Green song. Now I can't get it out of my head!! :)
How precious... that's all I can think to say. No matter how many times I see little prego bellys and ultrasound pictures and no matter how many stories I hear, I will never cease to be in awe of the amazing process that God created for us to bring our children into this world. I am so happy for you!
On another note, I think this is the second shower you've done with petit fours... I LOVE petit fours and cup cakes too! Something about individual serving size that just more fun than a big 'ole cake!
Even though I am an ultrasound technologist, and see these things every single day I am ever mindful of what a true miracle pregnancy is! So happy for you! Just an FYI--many, many times they aren't able to find the heartbeat without ultrasound (mostly due to baby position & motion). Also, typically with ultrasound they won't "listen" to the heartbeat until after the first trimester to avoid any damage to the little one. That's why ultrasound is nice...it's lets you SEE it-even better!! Praying for you...
I love those ultrasound pictures!! I still have them framed. They didn't get my son's heartbeat on the machine the first time either. I freaked out too, but them move so much!! Congrats again. I just love hearing about your journey.
Seeing ultrasound pics never gets old.....WOW! Do you just keep pinching yourself or what? :) Very excited for you both! I have 3 boys and their a handful but a lot of fun....but on the other hand a little girl would be so much fun to dress up so I will be praying for a healthy and strong baby but for God to give you the desires of your heart! :) Praising him daily for his miracles!!! :) Have a fabulous weekend mommy to be!
I can feel you smiling from hear! Im so exicited that you were able to take a peek and see the heartbeat. I can remember the feelings I felt when I first saw my little ones.... True Bliss! Susie H~
Thank the Good Lord!
I've experienced both kinds, where they can't find the hearbeat and it's ok and where they can't find the heartbeat, and it's not okay.
I am so happy for you that it's okay. So exciting. Enjoy!
Dena
What a beautiful thing to see!!! I always cry when I hear or see my babies. Every single time, every visit! There is something amazing and magical about it when you are expecting. Congratulations! Oh my my 160 heartbeat was a handsome little boy names Greg - they swore he was a girl - go figure!
Kelly-Oh my goodness, what a precious ultrasound pic! How sooo very exciting!!! Aww how sweet of Heather! Packages are always great! I know you were just ecstatic to get that baby journal and book! Again, I am soooo happy for you!
I just discovered your blog by popping over from Sunni's...
Congratulations!
We struggled to conceive our now two year old son. It took 15 months on Clomid, which seemed like forever at the time. It's hard when God is telling you "Wait" but it feels like "No."
So I know what it's like to want a baby, but to be unsure if you'll ever have one. And I know the indescribable JOY of that positive pregnancy test. Woo hoo!
I was so touched by the photos you posted of your parents. Tears of joy are the best emotions in the world.
(By the way, we are expecting baby #2 around Thanksgiving, this time after one month on Clomid!)
Sorry for the long comment.
"You can be sure that the Lord has His hand on you, safe and secure, He will never abandon you! You are His treasure and He finds His pleasure in you!"
Yes, I surely know that song and love singing it! Thanks for bringing it to mind, as I'm really struggling right now.......it's a great song to help captivate my thoughts!
Wow, isn't it great to see your little baby in a picture?? I will NEVER get tired of it, and every single time it's like the first time!
Hang in there, girl! I'm praying for you!

Yay for the great ultrasound!!! I'm so very happy for you. I will be praying for you and the baby! And...I couldn't help but notice...um...was there a petit fore missing from that box?? Did someone have a little cravy-crave on the way to the shower? ;)
OH look at your baby!! I can't wait for mine on July 14th! How exciting!
Oh how fun! I love the picture! Such a miracle to see a heart beating in a baby that small. Just precious.
I love your baby picture! I would cry just looking at it too! SO precious!
I am so glad that everything went well. That is a great verse to claim and, yes, I absolutely do remember the Steve Green song.
I am praying for you.
Emilie
What a little cutie! Ultrasounds always make me get teary. I am so glad you know the song, it makes the verse even more special. I'm glad God is using the verse in your life too, isn't it amazing how His word is alive and speaks to us in new ways all the time? I've been there on the doppler thing and during ultrasounds. Like we've talked about, getting pregnant is just the very beginning of the trust journey. God is faithful, always remember. Can't wait for more updates!
This is Lane's Mom Rose Mary. Jamie
