In case you missed Idol last night..................................DAVID COOK WAS AMAZING!!!!!!
I'm pretty sure he has elevated himself to my favorite American Idol contestant ever. I don't normally vote - but I couldn't even tell you how many times I voted for him last night.
He had me at "Hello" a few weeks ago but last night was so awesome. I don't know if I could dance to his Billie Jean - but I LOVED IT!!!!!
Who did you like? And how old did you feel when they were picking songs from their birth years and it was songs from my junior high and high school years!!!! ha!
And so I started thinking what song would I sing from my birth year? I was born in 1973 and these were some of the top songs that I guess I would choose from.
1. Killing me Softly with his song - Roberta Flack
2. Let's get it on - Marvin Gaye
3. You're So Vain - Carly Simon
4. Delta Dawn
5. You are the Sunshine of my life - Stevie Wonder
Google the top songs in your birth year - what would you sing?????

I so agree. I was amazed last night. I was never a big Michael Jackson fan (I know...heresy), so I wasn't excited when he said he was singing "Billie Jean". But that? That was...WOW. So original and fresh & cool!
What's not orginal and fresh and cool? Me...because I graduated from high school the same year the first 3 were born!
Rick Springfield-"Jessie's Girl"
REO Speedwagon-"Keep On Loving You"
Journey-"Don't Stop Believin'"
81' HAHAHAHAH i love all three songs!!!
maybe we should look up songs from our senior year in high school...mine would be scary i think
David Cook rocked it out last night. Love him.
1971 was a good year. I'd choose one of these three:
Your Song-Elton John
Maggie May-Rod Stewart
Take Me Home Country Roads-John Denver
love me some 70's music.
I DON'T SING....really. I don't, but if I did here are a few of the songs I might just sing (born in 1978):
1. Hopelessly Devoted to You by Olivia Newton John
2. Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees
3. We are the Champions by Queen
4. Beast of Burden by the Rolling Stones (one of my all time faves)
5. Just the Way you Are by Billy Joel
This was a creative post! I'm still not watching AI. It just seems that Tuesday nights I forget.:)
ooh, i hope you get the chance someday to sing delta dawn or sunshine of my life. '73 has excellent choices!
as for me ('80) i would sing
don't do me like that (tom petty and the heartbreakers)
all out of love (air supply)
heartache tonight (eagles)
or escape-the pina colada song (rupert holmes)
I love David Cook too!! He is amazing!!! I think that the other contestants would really have to do something amazing to beat him, at this point.
I was born in 1983 so IF I could sing, I would probably sing one of these:
Faithfully- Journey
Total Eclipse of the Heart- Bonnie Tyler
Little Red Corvette-Prince
Love is a Battlefield-Pat Benatar
Sharp Dressed Man-ZZ Top
I could probably go on forever!
I'd sing these:
"Where is the Love" Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway
"Puppy Love" Donny Osmond (hahaha)
"My Ding-A-Ling" Chuck Berry (hahahahahaha)
Not too thrilled with the selection in 1972. But it WAS a good year! :)
No kidding--he was awesome!!! I really see him winning the whole competition.
I'm disappointed in David A. though--he's so sweet and cute and has an amazing voice, but he doesn't have nearly the same confidence on stage that David C. does. I hope Brooke has a better week next week--I really like her too. I hope Ramiele (sp?) goes home this week.
i totally agree about david cook! i LOVED it... no idea what i would sing from my birth year...i'll have to look into it and maybe comment again :-)
1980:
All Out of Love-Air Supply
On the Road Again-Willie Nelson (for my dad)
Super Trouper-ABBA
Theme from Dukes of Hazzard-Good Ol' Boys
Keep On Loving You-REo Speedwagon
I'm a young one; but I'm likin'...
1. What Have You Done for me Lately - Janet Jackson
2. You Give Love a Bad Name - Bon Jovi
3. True Colors - Cyndi Lauper
4. Small Town - John Mellencamp
And I agree... David Cook was aMAZING!!!
First of all....What's with Paula's tacky gloves???
Second, I liked David Cook but I did not know the song "Billie Jean" but I think it was a M. Jackson song and was probably faster than that!
Well, this is sad: I googled to see what songs were popular when I was born (yes, there was music back in the dark ages) and I only had heard of three of them so here goes:
1) I'm Looking over a Four Leaf Clover by Art Mooney
2) Buttons and Bows by Dinah Shore
3) I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm by Les Brown
Commence the laughter!! Mom
Even though I am tone deaf, I believe some people have been tortured with my karaoke renditions of the following songs:
1) I Will Surivie--Gloria Gaynor.
2) The Knack--My Sharona
3) We are Family--Sister Sledge
1974:
The Way We Were, Barbra Streisand
The Streak, Ray Stevens (because he is hilarious!!!
Sunshine On My Shoulder, John Denver
This was fun! And a little depressing. = )
Sad...I missed it last night. And to answer your question yes, Aaron was in our band. We all started as a band for the young singles at our church, and it just moved on from there. Now all the people from the old band (minus the bass player, Duffy) are still around our church and we play together.
If you have Facebook you can do a search of our "Perimeter Church Gym Service" page and they post some of our music on there.
Have a great day!
1977 - Dancing Queen!
So excited to see that one in the list. : )
I really, really love David Cook. I was amazed by his arrangement last night.
The #1 song in 1980 was You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC! I love that song, so I would totally sing that.
I'm torn. I have no idea who I want to win American Idol now. Bryan loved David Cook's Billie Jean. I like Brooke White, and David A (just because he reminds me of a shy nephew maybe. He is adorable) but I'm not sure they have enough to go all the way. And David A didn't have a good song last night.
David Cook is my absolute favorite and he was AMAZING last night!!! I seriously voted like 50 times for him.
I was born in 1981 and probably would have sung
Treat me right by Pat Benetar or
Don't stop believin by Journey
Rock on David C. you are definitely my American Idol!
I heart David Cook! I have ever since he sang Bon Jovi in the first audition. Love him!
I was born in 1970, so I would have to go with:
1) ABC (Jackson 5)
2) Signed, Sealed, Delivered (Stevie Wonder)
3)I'll Be There (Jackson 5)
I Googled the songs from 1975 and had only heard of about 10% of them. I liked Lady Marmalade, by Labelle - I would sing that one!
Want to feel old. I was walking through the front office of the school where I work and kids were registering for school, and they were born iin the 21st Century!!!!
I love David Cook!!!
I will have to go and check the 1981 top songs....hmmmm! I love the 80s though :)
I totally agree with David Cook(we voted for him too)being the best. I also agree with your mom about Paula's tacky gloves.
Top songs that I might sing from 1966 were:
Cherry Cherry - Neil Diamond
I Am A Rock - Simon & Garfunkle
Monday, Monday & California Dreamin' - Mamas and the Papas
You Can't Hurry Love - The Supremes
I still have to watch AI from last night, but here's what I would sing from 1980...
1)Call Me - Blondie
2)Rock with you - Michael Jackson
3)Little Jeannie - Elton John
4)Escape (the Pina Colada song) - Rupert Holmes
Great video of him singing! I didn't watch, instead I was watching Dancing with the Stars.
Happy Birthday to Scott!
How fun! I'm going to google right now :)
I am hearting david cook too! he is so multi-talented! i love it. I still like brooke white though.
i am going to try that google thing. sounds interesting!
Oh yes, David Cook is quite amazing, and I may have a small crush on him. Boys who can sing do that to me.
1984 produced these gems for me to choose from...
1. What's Love Got To Do With It-Tina Turner
2. I Just Called To Say I Love You-Stevie Wonder (coincidentally, this is my ringtone!)
3. Girls Just Want To Have Fun-Cyndi Lauper
Amanda and I were in the same sorority at ASU...so funny you go to church together! I actually haven't seen her in over 7 years and have just found her through the blog world! We are pumped about breakfast!!
Jeremy was rockin' in the free world in 1973 so his top three songs from the year he was born are as follows:
1. You Can’t Always Get What You Want, The Rolling Stones
2. Bad Bad Leroy Brown, Jim Croce
3. We're An American Band, Grand Funk Railroad
And I was born in 1975 so these songs are some you might hear me singing (in the shower) even today.
1. You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet, Bachman Turner Overdrive
2. Jive Talkin', Bee Gees
3. Kung Fu Fighting, Carl Douglas
We are all about the Cook man on AI.
I'm not an AI fan, but that video of your production of Billie Jean is absolutely hilarious. It makes me smile just thinking about it.
Here's my pics from 1977:
Walk this Way, Aerosmith
The things We Do For Love
Margaritaville
Hotel California
Love David Cook, too! He had me at Hello, also!
I was born in 72, so had that same feeling with the '87 songs-those were jr. high songs!
Saturday In The Park, Chicago
Lean On Me, Bill Withers
Oh Girl, Chi-Lites
American Pie, Don McLean
I was born in 1980 and there were tons of great songs that I love!
1. Call Me- Blondie
2. I'm All Out of Love- Air Supply (always reminds me of the movie Van Wilder!)
3. Queen-"Another One Bites the Dust"
4. Pat Benatar-"Hit Me With Your Best Shot" (We sang this at kariokee one night)
5.The Manhattans-"Shining Star"
6. Irene Cara-"Fame"
Good idea Kelly!
I agree...I seriously think he could win it this year. He's kinda flying under the radar but everything he does is amazing!
