This weekend we headed down south to Magnolia to visit Scott's parents. We left a little early from work Friday and after a quick stop at Starbucks we were on our way. (Thanks to Jamie - the sweetest, most thoughtful friend who sent us a starbucks card this week along with the most touching card!)
Six long hours later - we got there just in time to go to bed. The next day we all got up late and ate breakfast. Scott and his dad went to their deer camp/farm about 30 minutes away because Scott's dad has been doing a lot of work out there and he had a huge pile of stuff he needed to burn. So they went out there and worked on that fire all day long.
Scott's mom and I went out there around lunch time and took Scott his favorite thing about south Arkansas:
Chick A Dilly Chicken. If you know him - then you know that's all he ever talks about. (That and how much he hates Houston Nutt.........but we have moved past that. ha! )
While he worked hard - I enjoyed a nice peaceful day of movies. I have heard my friend Elizabeth talk about all of these movies based on books by Janette Oke called the "Love comes softly" series. They are Christian movies and some of them star Izzy from Gray's Anatomy. They are sort of like House on the Prarie - in fact Michael Landon, Jr produced them. Well - they were having a marathon of all of these movies on the Hallmark channel. I think Scott's mom and I watched five in a row. I never have time to just sit and watch movies like that. If you have never seen these - look them up - they are SO good!
Then Scott's dad and mom cooked us a big feast of chicken and beans and potato salad and rolls and pie. Once again - I ate WAY too much.
We had a great weekend - hope all of you did as well!!!!

You are a breath of Southern air, albeit a bit smoky, tonight. I'm loving that you ate chicken twice AND went out to the deer camp!!
I started reading the Jeanette Oke books about 5 years ago and when I found the first movie I was so excited. I watched the marathon from my sick bed yesterday. I love them!
Glad you had a good visit with Scott's parents.
I'm so glad you are back! Not that I would have seen you this weekend anyway I just like when you are here! :) I haven't seen those movies but my mom and sister love them. I'm going to have to check them out!
Poor Dawson!!
I've been craving fried chicken! That looks SO good! It's nice to have a relaxing weekend.
Thanks Kelly for the comment...I knew you would be proud we bought dresses, although it was hard to find a dress that wasn't extrememly too short!! As far as the hair thing goes, invest in Bed Head's Hard Head hairspray. It's 13.99 at Target, but worth every penny!
Glad ya'll had a great weekend!
kelly,
I absolutley love the love comes softly books and movies. They are so awesome. I hope you enjoyed watching the movies. Glad you had a break this weekend with your husband. Have a wonderful monday.
Hugs,
Francine Howell
Poor Daws...I have had sick dogs and sick kids, honestly I think dogs are worse. They can't talk and tell you what's hurting.
He's a cute pooch for sure.
I love those movies! I wish that Katherine Heigl would have continued to play her original role. It's just not the same without her.
What a fun weekend spent w/ family! Glad it was a good trip and hope Dawson is feeling better!
That sounds like fun!! Have you ever tried spudnuts down south? That's my favorite!
Of course you are added to my blog list!! I feel like you are a real life friend!
Poor, poor Dawson!! I hate that he got sick. Bless his little pecious heart. How is he now that you are home? Is he eating?
I love the movies you watched! We rented Loves Comes Softly when it first came out. They are great!
Scott looks like he is having a blast burning things in the pile! David loves fire! I think it must be a guy thing.
Glad you are back!
What a great weekend! Love the pic of you and the deer head. :) I'm glad you had a good chance to use the Starbucks card. :) Have a good week. Hope Dawson is feeling better too.
Sounds like a wonderful weekend! Even two daughters into parenting, I still get worked up when my little shih-tzu is sick. They are so pitiful- hope Dawson is better soon!
I love hearing about all you southern gals and the yummy food you get! I am wishing that Colorado had a yummy friend chicken place like that - wow - that greasiness sounds goo-oo-ood!
Also, I like the pic of you and the deer! So cute!
Hope Dawson is feeling better! He is such a cutie!
Magnolia, Texas?!?!? or a Magnolia some where else???
Poor Dawson!!! =( Did he get car sick?
Love the pic with you and the deer head!!! I've been deer hunting...I was the only girl growing up...I was wrapped around my dads leg...so I went where he went!!! It's really not as bad as it might seem!!
I love the "Love Comes Softly" series. I saw the movies were on but didn't get to watch them. I haven't seen the last two. I want to get the books, I'm sure they are wonderful!!
I would love to add you. Sometimes I feel like I know you so well, like we are bffs (ok, that was dorky but true).
I really hate to do the whole private thing b/c I love meeting new people on here, but Kyle insists.
That picture of you and that deer is cracking me up. My inlaws have a deer hanging in one of their guest bedrooms and I tell my husband every time we are there, "that deer is watching me!". And that fried chicken... OH.MY.WORD... Looks delish!
Sounds like fun! I wanted to tell you that I made those cupcakes that you posted about, this weekend and OMG! They were SOO GOOD!! Thanks for sharing the recipe!
I love the movies too!! I watched some of them on Satruday, but had not seen the last one yet so was relly excited about that one!
I am in agreement about the cute deer! Why?
I love the Love Comes Softly movies. I read the books when I was a lot younger. I have the DVDs. Bryan makes fun of one of them (I can't remember which one) because the snow looks incredibly fake. But I don't care. Very rarely can you find movies as sweet and clean as those. I love them!!
Glad you had a relaxing Saturday. I am a South AR girl now so I need to find out about Chick A Dilly. That little meal looks pretty good. I sure hope that Dawson's better.
It sounds like you and Scott had a fun weekend!
Poor Dawson! Hope he is feeling better. Maggie Belle, my little pug, was not feeling well either. She had her second seizure in a week. She's 10 years old and has arthritis. It's sad to watch. The doctor says we can't do much except make her comfortable. So even with kids, my Maggie Belle is one too!
Looks like you guys had a fun filled weekend. There is nothing better than a marathon of movies! Um, I must add that the fried chicken looks SO good! Poor Dawson - I hope he is feeling better.
That fried chicken looks so good!! I think I must be hungry. I made the cake balls this weekend and they were sooo good!! Everyone loved them! I am glad you had a relaxing weekend, I love to just lay around and watch movies.
I'm going to have to check out those movies - nothing beats a good Lifetime or Hallmark movie :) Hope you have a wonderful week!
I have not watched those movies..but I will def have to now!!!!! I'm glad that ya'll got to get away and enjoy the inlaws. ok so i find it hard to believe that the navy dress did not look good on you!!!! it is kinda strange to wear because I am so short waisted. Gold beads....STEINMART OF COURSE!!! just one of the best stores ever
oh my gosh you are sooo funny. i just went back through the pictures and the one of you with the deer is so funny!!!!!! you are cute cute
What a fun weekend! The deer picture is so cute!
I started reading the Janette Oke books when I was young and I absolutely love them. I will say the movies deviate a bit from the books, but they're still good. You must read the books, though!
Happy Monday!
I am so glad that you had a nice, relaxing weekend with the in-laws. I am so jealous of all of the bloggers that are near you...Lena and I might just have to come and visit =)!
Dawson is adorable...even when sick!
And the fried chicken looks so yummy!
Yeah for a movie-a-thon. What a great way bonding with your mother-in-law!
