We just returned from spending the holiday with Scott's family in Magnolia. We had a very nice thanksgiving. We got there late Wednesday night. Thursday we packed up all the food and took it out to their deer camp. They have a bunch of land about 30 minutes away where they go to hunt and his cousins met us there and we ate a big lunch. We stayed out there all day. They guys watched the Cowboys game in the afternoon and Scott's mom and I took a 2 hour nap. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed being out in the woods.
A family friend comes each year from Florida to hunt for a week and he finally got a deer (a baby one I might add) that night. So I got to witness my first dead deer and he also proceeded to skin the deer right outside the patio doors. I'm pretty sure Dawson and I are scarred for life after that. I think we both had nightmares.
Scott's dad and his dad's brother have a family farm and his dad has been raising chickens for over 40 years but he is raising his very last batch of chickens so Scott went with him to photograph him in the chicken house with his last bunch of chickens.
Deer hunting, Catfish, BBQ, football, and pie..........I would say that's a very southern thanksgiving!

Sounds like you guys had a great time...gotta love naps during the day!!!
That pic of Dawson and the deer in unbelievable!! A very Southern Thanksgiving indeed! : )
I love your pictures and the details of what you ate! It's almost 10pm and I'm hungry after reading your post!!
1) I'm jealous that you got to take so many naps! 2) I LOVE the pic of you guys in camo--something I thought I'd never see! :) 3) I laughed about the skinning of the deer outside the door--I wouldn't want to see that either 4) That's a sweet picture of S's dad with one of his last chickens...that was sweet of S to go take his picture. 5) If y'all have a little boy he is going to LOVE hanging out at this farm and doing all the outdoor stuff! R would have fun there!
I'm curious if you went to The Rails or to The Ole Feed House for your catfish dinner. We loved both of those places!
Glad you're home and had a fun Thanksgiving.
I thought of you when the Hogs won. You know I like Houston Nutt (his only fan, I'm sure) so I was thankful that if he leaves, he at least leaves with a BIG win under his belt!
I luv this post. It made me feel like I was home for Thanksgiving. My home is in Crossett - not too far from Magnolia.
What a fun Thanksgiving! My parents also live in LA (Lower Arkansa) so it all sounds very familiar...
Sounds like a great Thanksgiving- especially the naps:-)
I grew up in a family of hunters, and so it wasn't until I was a married adult that I realized it might not be the norm to have a dead deer hanging outside the kitchen window during dinner! I'm with you- it still grosses me out!
It looks like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I loved all the pictures. I'm catching up on all my blog reading since I have been away from a computer so I just read a lot of posts from you! I can't wait to see all your Christmas decorations! We bought our tree last night & it was so much fun! Also, I kept seeing updates on the Arkansas game & I was thinking you would be very excited!! Happy Thanksgiving & let the countdown to Christmas begin!
Lovin' the camo jacket. I can't poke too much fun...hubs keeps trying to take me hunting.
